Abashiri Port

Abashiri Port is a harbor located in the northeastern part of Hokkaido, facing the Sea of Okhotsk. It plays an important role as a distribution hub for the wider Hokuten region, including the cities of Abashiri and Kitami. Blessed with abundant fishery resources, it ranked first in Japan in autumn salmon catch volume in 2012, and is also used as a base for offshore and coastal fishing. Meanwhile, as the gateway to the World Natural Heritage site "Shiretoko," it welcomes numerous cruise ships and serves as a departure and arrival point for tourism in eastern Hokkaido. In terms of air travel, direct flights to major domestic cities operate from Memanbetsu Airport, located about a 30-minute drive away.
