Gonoura Port
Since ancient times, Iki has flourished through maritime exchange and trade between Japan and the continent, and precious historical heritage from each era remains scattered throughout the island—including the Harunotsuji Ruins, a Yayoi-period site designated as a Special National Historic Site, approximately 270 burial mounds, the myth of the birth of the nation recorded in the Kojiki, and 24 prestigious shrines listed in the Engishiki, a Heian-period Japanese legal code. Moreover, the island as a whole is so beautiful that it has been designated a Quasi-National Park, with its scenic coastline and beaches selected among the "100 Best Beaches of Japan" and "100 Best Bathing Beaches" overwhelming all who visit. It is also a treasure trove of food, abundant with fresh seafood and rich agricultural produce.
