Hososhima Port
Hosojima Port is located in Hyuga City, roughly in the center of the coastal area of eastern Kyushu, and has long played an important role as a key hub for maritime transportation. Designated as a Major Port in 1951 and officially opened in 1964, it has since developed as a distribution base supporting regional employment and the economy in the hinterland of the northern part of the prefecture. With numerous manufacturing plants located in its hinterland, it functions as an international industrial port handling mainly industrial raw materials and products, supporting a large share of overseas exports, and it also serves diverse roles as a gateway to tourist attractions such as Takachiho. Furthermore, having been designated a National Priority Port in 2010, it is undergoing rapid development and is attracting great expectations and attention from many quarters.
