Mikawa Port (Gamagori Area)
Located almost in the center of Japan, this is a trading port that exports finished automobiles. Situated in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, it is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces Mikawa Bay, enjoying a mild climate throughout the year. Hot spring resorts such as Miya, Katahara, and Nishiura are scattered throughout the city, attracting tourists who come to enjoy the hot springs. In addition, "Lagunasia," a complex resort featuring a theme park and shopping that opened in 2002, has become a bustling hub visited by approximately 3 million people annually. In terms of gourmet food, visitors can enjoy fresh seafood from Mikawa Bay, taking advantage of the prefecture's leading catch of clams and blackthroat seaperch, among others. Also famous as a local specialty is "Gamagori Udon," which achieved a double crown by winning both the 2013 National Local Udon Summit and the 2014 National Complete Udon Summit.
