Muroran Port is located at the eastern end of Uchiura Bay in Hokkaido. Known since ancient times as a naturally excellent harbor, it has played an important role in Hokkaido's comprehensive development as a hub of sea and land transportation and as an industrial foundation supporting the Dō-ō region since its opening in 1872 (Meiji 5).
