Ominato Port
Ominato Port, located in Mutsu City, the northernmost city on Honshu, sits at the northeastern part of Mutsu Bay, serving as the gateway to the Shimokita Peninsula. It is an excellent port that serves as a starting point for sightseeing on the Shimokita Peninsula, home to "Osorezan," one of Japan's three great sacred sites, "Hotokegaura," lined with white-green shaped rocks, and "Oma Town," famous for single-hook tuna fishing. The Shimokita Peninsula boasts abundant hot springs and numerous scenic spots such as mountain streams reflecting the beauty of each season, as well as being a treasure trove of seafood and mountain delicacies that captivate food connoisseurs. From the port, visitors can view Mt. Kamafuse, the peninsula's highest peak, which changes its appearance with each season. The night view from the Kamafuse Observatory, looking down over the city area spreading along Mutsu Bay, resembles a butterfly taking flight and is known as the "Swallowtail Butterfly Night View," having been selected as one of Japan's Night View Heritage sites.
