Kagawa

Sakaide Port

Sakaide City is located almost in the center of Kagawa Prefecture, and has flourished since the Edo period as one of the leading salt field towns in Japan. Along with this, Sakaide Port developed as a port for shipping salt. Subsequently, through the attraction of large-scale coastal factories accompanying the reclamation of Bannosu, and port development utilizing former salt field sites, it has greatly contributed to the industry of Kagawa Prefecture and the development of Sakaide City. In the background, the "Great Seto Bridge," a project of the century, opened in 1988, and with the development of the Shikoku Transverse and Longitudinal Expressways, the city plays an important role as the gateway to Shikoku and as a hub connecting sea and land transportation axes.
