Sakata Port
Sakata Port is surrounded by Mt. Chokai and the Dewa Sanzan mountains, and is located at the mouth of the Mogami River. Waves are mostly caused by seasonal winds, and their direction of travel is generally perpendicular to the coastline, with the depth contour lines running almost parallel to the coastline. The most commonly observed wave height is 0 to 2.0 m. The seabed material is sandy, containing some silt. The tidal range is extremely small, with a diurnal tidal range of less than 30 cm, so the effect of the tides on tidal currents is minimal. The tidal current flows along the coast from south to north at approximately 0.15 m/sec, and therefore does not impede the navigation of vessels.
