Shimoda Port
Shimoda Port is a historic port where Commodore Perry's fleet entered during the late Edo period, becoming the stage for Japan's opening to the world. Since the waters off Shimoda Port are subject to severe topographical and marine conditions, resulting in a high frequency of maritime accidents, Shimoda Port has been designated as a refuge port and is used by approximately 100 vessels seeking refuge each year.
