Sukumo Bay Port

Sukumo Bay Port is located at the southern tip of Bungo Channel, serving as a maritime gateway to the southwestern part of Shikoku. In June 1984, Katashima Port and Kotsukushi Port were merged to create the local port of Sukumo Bay Port, spanning a vast port area of 1,960 hectares across Sukumo City and Otsuki Town, and in 1986 it was elevated to the status of a Major Port. In the Ikejima district, based on the port plan formulated in 1986, land reclamation projects were carried out, including quays capable of accommodating 40,000-ton class vessels as well as industrial land, and the quay came into service from December 2000. From the quay, you can see "Koyo Island," a spot known for viewing the "Daruma sunset," and by venturing a little further, you can reach "Shimanto River" and "Cape Ashizuri," both representative tourist destinations of Kochi Prefecture.
