Tomakomai Port

Tomakomai Port faces the Pacific Ocean on the eastern side of Hokkaido. It is also close to New Chitose Airport, and the two are known together as the "Double Port City." Both ports are known as gateways for shipping and air transport, making the area a major transportation hub. Tomakomai City leads Hokkaido as a vibrant industrial city where diverse industries are concentrated and developing. At the same time, Tomakomai is also blessed with a rich natural environment. For example, Tomakomai City is home to Mount Tarumae, an active volcano also known as a mountain-climbing spot, and Lake Utonai, a wetland registered under the Ramsar Convention. Tomakomai City is also a comfortable place to live, with cool summers and little snow in winter.
